Did you know the first American Heart Month was proclaimed by President Lyndon B. Johnson in February 1964? Every year in February, IU Health holds events for the community to raise awareness and promote healthy choices for “Heart Health Month”. This year, I got to be a part of it!
In February 2017, I got to paint “Happy Heart” with over 100 guests. First 30 people at IU Saxony (Fishers), next 50 people at IU Tipton, last 30 people at IU North (Fishers). What a blast!
Each event started with delicious, heart-healthy hors d’oeuvres, followed by informative advice by IU Cardiologists, and ended with our 2-hour painting party! I created the painting “Happy Heart” specifically for these events. Each guest took home their original, hand-painted “Happy Heart” to remind them that a Healthy Heart is a Happy Heart (and a Happy Heart is a Healthy Heart!).
Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the U.S. The good news? It is also one of the most preventable. Making heart-healthy choices, knowing your family history & the risk factors, plus regular check-ups are integral aspects of saving lives from this silent killer. ALSO- managing your stress!
For me, painting makes me happy, and reduces my stress level. I would LOVE to share a night of laughs, joy, music, and fellowship with you to help reduce your stress too! I hope you can join me for a painting party soon. Your heart will thank you!
