I was honored to be invited as the art instructor for the special event “Turn Pink with IU Health Tipton”.
A friend & I arrived early to set 60 places. We covered the tables with pink table cover, then set each place with easels, brushes, water cups, paper towels, large canvases and aprons.
When guests arrived in their favorite pink threads, they enjoyed a delicious meal catered by IU Health. We all had the pleasure of listening to Dr. Kandice Ludwig, IU Health breast surgeon, speak about exam options, and working with your doctor to find which is best for you.
Next we painted! We passed out the paint trays with blue, green, white & brown to get started. While listening to fun, upbeat music I walked everyone through the first half of “Cherry Blossoms”. Beautiful blue skies, green grass, & the start of our tree. A quick break to get fresh paint water, a fresh plate of food, and a tray full of hot pink paint!
I truly enjoyed seeing all of the trees come to life with beautiful pink cherry blossoms! The final touch: a pink ribbon carved in the tree. What an amazing night! A room full of women making the effort to take care of ourselves, enjoying a couple of hours of art, joy & laughter, going home with their very own unique hand-painted reminder of this special event.
We tried to get a big group photo of all of us with our beautiful paintings, but couldn’t fit in one camera frame! We did get several photos of the night posted on our Facebook page. Take a look to see how awesome this event really was!
You or someone you know has been affected by Breast Cancer (1 in 8 women!). My mother is a Breast Cancer Survivor. I am grateful she won the fight! For the rest of us, keep on top of your health, exams, and stress! Celebrate Life!
Thank you IU Health for including me in this celebration. GO PINK! xoxoxo- Tanya
